On the 27th November, 1996 the birth of the entity called Kosofe Local Government was announced with four other new local governments in Lagos State.
Although first created in 1980 and later abolished in 1984, Kosofe Local Government was recreated along with other new councils all over the nation in line with the Federal Government’s policy of bringing the government closer to the people and as a result of the yearnings and aspirations of inhabitants.
There is no doubting the fact that the birth of Kosofe was a step towards an improved welfare package for the citizens of the area. It is also a means of fostering unity among the indigenes and the residents of the area.
However, due to its location as the gateway to the state and the hospitality of the indigenes, Kosofe houses people from the Northern and Eastern parts of the country who engage in commercial activities in the various markets such as Binukonu Market, Ojota and Bello Bakare Market.
Another emergent class of dwellers in Kosofe are top civil servants and officials who live in Government Residential Areas in Ogudu. Despite the diversity of its dwellers, the Local Government is very peaceful and the relationship between the different groups is very cordial. This give a favourable background for the development of the area.

Executive, Council Legislative and Management working together for timely service delivery and open communication.
Report potholes, drainage and streetlight faults; see ongoing works and sanitation schedules.
Primary health centres, immunisation, schools & library services, WAPA/youth programmes.
Kosofe runs a two-arm system—Executive and Legislative—supported by the Council Manager and professional departments. The Executive Chairman leads policy and projects with the Vice Chairman, SLG and sector Supervisors. Ward Councillors make bye-laws and approve budgets; the Clerk provides legislative support. Service delivery is coordinated through core departments: Administration/HR, Finance & Accounts, Works & Infrastructure, Health/PHC, Education & Library, Environment, Agriculture & Social Services, Planning/Budget (PRS), plus Legal, Audit, ICT, Public Affairs and Procurement. Area Offices bring permits, payments and complaints handling closer to neighbourhoods.
The Kosofe LGA map shows the communities and ward boundaries that make up the council area, including Agboyi, Ikosi–Ketu, Oworonshoki, Anthony/Mende and Ojota. Use the legend to spot protected natural areas and flood-prone zones; the scale bar helps estimate distance to markets, schools, PHC centres and area offices. The grid and north arrow make it easy to orient yourself on the ground. Residents can quickly identify their ward and the closest service point, while planners use the map to route waste collection, drainage works and emergency response.
At the heart of Kosofe is its people resilient, resourceful, and united. From the lively communities of Ketu, Mile 12, and Ojota to the serene waterfronts of Agboyi-Ketu and Oworonshoki, Kosofe embodies the true Lagos spirit: energy, enterprise, and cultural diversity.
Our mission is to serve the people of Kosofe by promoting inclusive governance, sustainable development, and community well-being. We are committed to providing essential services, improving infrastructure, supporting local businesses, and creating opportunities that uplift every resident.
To build a progressive and people-focused local government that preserves our cultural heritage while embracing innovation and development for future generations.
